FAQs

Where do the tours start?
All our regularly scheduled walking tours begin from our ticket office (Castle Coffee) which is a former police box on the west end of Princes Street in the New Town across the road from Carphone Warehouse and beside one of the entrances to Princes Street Gardens (link to google maps location. Some of our more specialised tours begin in other places so check their website page to make sure.
How do I purchase tickets?
Tickets can be bought very easily on our website, just go to the page for the tour you’d like to do and hit book tour. If you’re unsure until the day in question that you’d be free for a particular time they can also be purchased at the tour box prior to the tour’s start. However given we focus on limiting numbers on our tours we recommend booking online to avoid disappointment.
How do you handle social distancing?

Yes we do, in order to help ensure a high quality experience and to ensure appropriate levels of social distancing we limit numbers to no more than 8 on any given tour. Our guides will also wear a visor, although masks or face coverings are not mandatory for our guests.

Do you allow children under 5 on your tours?
We do allow small children on most of our tours, and there is no charge for children under 5 however please be aware there not many easy changing facilities on most of the routes and it is quite difficult to move a push chair through parts of the Old Town.
Do you have child prices or the option of a family ticket?
Children are welcome on the tours but given we restrict overall numbers on the groups to 12 we do not offer a lower price for children.
How physically demanding are your tours?
Our tours vary in terms of how strenuous they are. We have a note on each tour page regarding the level of challenge they offer. Generally speaking our History Lovers Old Town Tour is the least strenuous and our Arthur’s Seat Hike is the most exerting. Whatever tour you’re booked on please make sure you wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
Could someone with a disability do your tours?

Some tours are possible to do with a physical disability and there is information regarding this on each specific tour page. If you’re unsure as to whether you or a member of your party could do the tour please contact us and we can give you some advice. Potentially we could alter the route in order to make things easier.

Do your tours run in bad weather?
Whether it’s rain, sleet, hail or snow if people are booked on our tours they will run! Whenever possible our guides will try to find some shelter from the worst of the elements but do make sure you are appropriately dressed for the tour particularly if it takes place in winter.
What happens if I’m late for the start of my tour?
We maintain a record of how many people are on our tours and if we see that customers have not arrived yet we will hold off on starting for up to 10 minutes. After that point though it’s too late to join the tour as to much will have been missed and it would probably be to hard to find the guide. All tickets are non refundable but if you get in touch we will attempt to get you booked on at another time based on availability.
Can I take photos?
Taking pictures is absolutely fine on the tours, just make sure your guide’s aware if you walk a bit away from the rest of the group.
Are there any scheduled toilet breaks?
There are no arranged toilet breaks on any of our tours, most are no more than 2 hours long. There are public toilets very close to the tour start point, please feel free to make use of these before the tour begins.
Can I book a private tour with you?

All our tours are available to be booked privately, if you would be interested in arranging one that can start at a time and place of your preference please contact us. We have a number of other more specialised tour and experience options through our sister company Local Eyes Tours.
